September 2: Acts 13:44-50
KJV Key Verse: Acts 13:46
46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold , and said , It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you , and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo , we turn to the Gentiles.
Devotion:
Sometimes we tend to look at our surroundings before we do what we should be doing. When we are brought up in the world and follow earthly ideals, this is exactly what we do, we tailor our actions according to who is watching us! But when we live in a foreign place (like when we are on holiday) then may well go a bit mad and think about the consequences later!
When we are living our lives as Christians, we should be living our lives the way God wants us to. That may not always be in line with the way people expect us to do things in this world. It may be that we get to rub a few people up the wrong way because they have been ruling their own little world until we come alone and do what God requires.
If we are on holiday and act in a reasonable way (well behaved etc) and continue to live as we do when we are at home, then the local people will see the way that we are and may even want to know more about us because we are different from the other tourists. They may begin to ask questions about us and we can share what God is doing in our lives. If we act like hooligans it will be the local police who want to find out more about us!
If we live our lives the way God wants us to we will be given opportunity to share our faith in some way or another. God knows the best way for us to live so that others will know that that is the right way and want to live that way too. All we need is a bit of faith to follow what He has asked us to do! In some cases it may seem like a whole lot of faith!
Points to Ponder:
Did your parents try to make you good or bad?
If your parents can do that, imagine how much more God can do!
