April 19: John 5:24-27

KJV Key Verse: John 5:24
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you , He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Devotion:
Have you ever been worried about how we are going to get to heaven? Have you ever been worried that, just like trying to wash laundry, maybe we will not be washed totally clean? Well, Christ has given us many answers and a few words -  I love the way we can read His Word and find so many wonderful truths each time.

First “the Father judgeth no man” (from the preceding verses.) God has delegated that authority to Christ Jesus. The one thing I used to be worried about was how my sin may leak out and I would not make it! But Christ is going to stand before us and say with all authority that we are now innocent, which means we do not have to prove we are; otherwise we would fail! Secondly, no matter how we see it, we have to make sure we honour God, Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit. For if we do not, then we are working against the whole, not just part of Him. If we were to constantly kick someone's ankles, could we convince them we are not hurting them, just their ankles? I think not!

And Thirdly, that judgement is not based on what we have or have not done. That judgement is based on a new “treaty” which was drawn up when we believed in Him. The moment we realised we were doing things wrong, accepted that fact, apologised and asked for forgiveness; that is the moment we showed we truly believed He is God. That is the moment the old treaty was thrown away and a new one drawn up solely based on His grace. If that had not been drawn up on His grace alone, then we would still face the predicament we “may not make it”.

Jesus was given authority over all mankind, not just because He is God, but because of what He has done for us. We exist because of Him. He has set down the Law. He is our judge. He alone says we are innocent. It is no longer what we say, but what He says because we have given Him that power back by believing in Him. Because of that, we stand innocent!

Points to Ponder:
Have you ever entrusted something to someone else?

We have entrusted our lives to Jesus Christ!
