His Place In Your Heart

“Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.”  (1 John 5:21)

Some translations of this verse instruct the reader to “keep yourself from idols.” Hopefully you don't bow down to carved images. But does someone or something occupy a place in your heart meant only for God?

God never changes. He is always loving. If you trusted in Jesus and asked Him into your life, you have become a new being, in holy fellowship with Him. You have a new destiny and a new purpose. But if you expect to get your identity, your hope or meaning for your life from something other than Jesus, it has become an idol to you.
