Reading your Bible for Today March 19
March 19: Ecclesiastes 2:24-26
KJV Key Verse: Ecclesiastes 2:24
24 There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink , and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw , that it was from the hand of God.
Devotion:
What a wonderful world God has given to us to inhabit. What an amazing place where, if we put our minds to anything, we can achieve so much. Animals have the knowledge built into them whereby they can survive and breed in places where we think it not possible, yet man has to be taught from an early age what he should be doing. Yes, we have the in-built knowledge of who our parents are and that we crave our mothers milk – yet we still have so much to learn and pick up. From learning and observing we can do so many things. Man has not stopped short of farming but has achieved remarkable leaps and bounds in science... Yet each leap draws him in closer to thinking he can control life – life that is given to him by our Creator!
One of the things which most of us enjoy in life is eating or tasting. We can delight our senses with simple foods, or exotic fruits from far countries (for man seems to have a global marketplace from which to choose nowadays). Eating and drinking in moderation can make us happy and we know we can get that food through working. We know we have to do some work so we can get paid, be it through monetary or other means. Whilst you are still young, your parents are the ones out there earning so they can buy food for you.
Yet with all the amazing things which we have at our disposal, we still look for more. We are not satisfied with all the luxuries life can supply. We can learn as much as we can to make our lives even more luxurious, but when it comes down to it, it is just life. If we are going to leave God out of it, we have nothing to show for it. But if we acknowledge God as our true Creator, we know then what lies ahead and can look forward to things even more!
Points to Ponder:
Which of your friends or family can cook the best meals?
What happens after the meal has gone and you feel hungry again?
