Reading your Bible for today January 28

January 28: Psalm 14:1-3

KJV Key Verse: Psalm 14:1
1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Devotion:
Just the first sentence of this Psalm says so much about us “The fool has said in his heart, There is no God!” Every person who claims there is no Judge or Governor who rules over the world, or there is no God taking careful note of the affairs of men, is sorely mistaken. That is what they are saying in their hearts – but what is it actually in their heart? Is it that they are saying they are not satisfied there is or is not, but really they do not want there to be because that would mean they are in the wrong? They are a fool because they have not taken into account all of the truth and are simply turning their backs on the truth, hoping that it will go away!

No person will say there is no God until they have become so entrenched in their sin they do not want to give it up. God’s Word alone will be able to convince that person of the truth, but they go out of their way not to hear the truth and to stay away from people who are willing to share that truth. They want to be able to stay entrenched in their sin because it feels good to them whilst they can still say there is no God. Sin is like a disease which has spread throughout all the population of the world and is preventing man from getting better. When some try to find out the truth and get better, those around rally and make sure they don’t otherwise they too may find out the truth!

Whatever good is in some people, it is not from themselves but because God has put it there. He continues to make sure some people will hear His Word all around the earth. He continues to make sure someone is willing to tell others of the truth... yet there is not a single person on earth that is good – we all have done something wrong in our lives. We face an uphill struggle which is insurmountable by ourselves. That is why God allowed His only Son to pay for our sins so we can have help overcoming the insurmountable. It is only with His help we can survive. There is a God and He lives!
