TODAY'S TEXT
JOHN 13:4-5; 12-17
MESSAGE
Pride and self has taken over the life of so many, even in Christendom. Some might be tempted to think that the text is not meant for some personalities. The spirit of servant hood, the aspect of the nature of Christ displayed in the passage we read, is fast disappearing.
A family read and discussed the text in morning devotion. They were reminded howJesus stooped so low to wash His disciples' feet, and the need for the entire household to be humble and render services even to people that were much lower than they in class, age and status. The boy of the house went to school and on his way back, the buckles on his school sandal got loose and he was walking with difficulty. A man in white shirt saw him, stooped and buckled his sandals for him and he walked home with ease. On reaching home, his parents noticed the excitement on the boy's face and asked him, "Why are you so excited?" The boy exclaimed, "I saw Jesus today." His parents and siblings were amazed and asked him how he knew it was Jesus. To describe what the Jesus looked like, His face beaming with excitement, he said, "I saw him, my sandal
was loose and I could not walk well, then I saw Jesus in white shirt, he bent down like He did when He washed the disciples' feet and buckled my sandal."
On close examination, they realized it was their senior pastor who the little boy did not know because he worshipped in the children's church. To the Iittle boy he saw Jesus in the pastor because the pastor did what Jesus would have done. Christ is speaking to us today to pick up our servant hood from wherever we dropped it.
PRAYER
Help me, Oh Lord, to bend down as Yo did, to the need of others, status and age notwithstanding. Amen.
