Reading your Bible for Today October 15

October 15: Titus 1:12-16

KJV Key Verse: Titus 1:16
16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

Devotion:
Paul's letter to Titus shows something we see today in our lives as well. Paul was brave enough to admit it to Titus whereas many people today are not; that there are people who profess to know God but when you are with them they do things which are decidedly non-Christian! If we are brave enough to admit it, we ourselves do things which are non-Christian from time to time!

Spotting when someone else does something wrong is normally quite easy and we will probably be able to admit they have done something wrong. Spotting when we do something wrong should be even easier because we know we are doing it wrong before we do it! We know when we are about to do wrong because God has given us a mind which is fast enough to be able to discern right from wrong before we do anything. Being able to control ourselves and not to follow on from our thoughts is a step we all find hard.

It seems so much easier to be able to sweep something small under the carpet whilst nobody is watching than to have to stop and get things right before proceeding. It is easier to forget something small than to make a big scene about getting it right. We would rather look like we are OK than actually be OK... at least at the time we would. Afterward, when we realise just how much we had to continue doing wrong to cover up our minor indiscretion, we then begin to realise just how much was affected by what we do wrong. We also begin to see how many friends were affected – but only if we do admit to doing wrong!

What we need to do in our lives is to make sure we follow God's Word. He has continued to make sure His Word survives intact for us to learn and follow. He has made sure everything is there for us to see... we are the ones who make the choice about whether we follow that Word here and now, or whether we allow things in our lives to go on by and hope others don't get to hear about them...
