November 21: Proverbs 16:18-19

KJV Key Verse: Proverbs 16:19
19 Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly*, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

Devotion:
You do not have to look too far in life before you see an instance of someone who got a bit too proud of what they had done and collapsed in a heap. Everyone from Kings & Queens, politicians, businesspeople and even the person next door may well have had their share of destruction when they got a bit proud. Pride is something that we need to watch very carefully and direct it very carefully too.

Whilst there seems nothing wrong in being proud of something in your life, you have to keep in mind how you got there. Being proud of something because you know that God has got you there is one thing. Being proud and boastful about your position because of what you think you have personally achieved is where you fall down! Too many people suddenly get it into their heads they have achieved everything when they see themselves nearing a position of power. They get it into their heads they are personally responsible for everything they have done and cannot see who is actually in control of their lives.

Knowing God is in control and making sure you remember that will wipe away any boastful, insolent or haughty spirit which you build up. Knowing it is by the grace of God we are where we are and making sure we thank Him for that will keep us away from the road to ruin. Being able to admit that God can do what we can never do, being able to admit others may even be able to do what we cannot do goes a long way to keeping the peace.

Being too proud to admit to a problem in your life means you will be keeping that problem with you wherever you go. Being humble enough to admit to it means your problem is going to be shared at the earliest possible time so someone else can help you. God is simply waiting for us to lift up our problems to Him in our lives. He is the only one who is able to take on all of our problems and help us at the same time!

Points to Ponder:
Do you admit it friends when something goes wrong?

Do you side with God or the guilty?
