Isaac Carried the Wood And it was Pointing to Jesus all Along

When Abraham and Isaac climbed Mount Moriah, Scripture records a detail that many people overlook—but it changes everything.

Abraham carried the fire and the knife.
Isaac carried the wood.

This was not a random detail. Isaac carried the very wood that would be used for his own sacrifice. As they walked, Isaac asked the haunting question: “Where is the lamb?” Abraham’s answer was prophetic—“God will provide for Himself the lamb.”

Centuries later, history would echo this moment.

Jesus would ascend another hill, carrying the wood of His own sacrifice on His shoulders. Like Isaac, He submitted willingly. Like Isaac, He trusted the Father completely. But unlike Isaac, Jesus was not spared—because He was the Lamb God promised.

Mount Moriah itself would become part of Jerusalem, the very place where God finally answered Isaac’s question in full. The shadow in Genesis became reality at the cross.

From the beginning, Scripture was telling one story—provision, obedience, and redemption through the Son.
