WHEN YOU FINALLY REALIZE… IT WAS GOD ALL ALONG

“Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, ‘Thus far the Lord has helped us.’” — 1 Samuel 7:12

The battle had ended, but the weight of what just happened still lingered in the air. The same ground that once echoed with fear now stood still under the quiet awe of victory. Not long before this moment, Israel had been broken—afraid, scattered, and overwhelmed by the threat of the Philistines. They knew they could not win on their own.

So they turned back to God.

They laid down their pride, repented with sincere hearts, and cried out for mercy. There were no weapons strong enough, no strategy wise enough—only faith. And God responded.

The heavens thundered. Confusion fell upon their enemies. What should have been defeat became victory in a way only God could orchestrate. It was undeniable—this was not human strength. This was divine intervention.

And in the middle of that powerful moment, Samuel did something deeply meaningful.

He didn’t rush forward. He didn’t celebrate loudly. He didn’t let the moment pass.

Instead, he paused.

He reached down, took a single stone, and carefully set it upright before the people. His hands were steady, but his heart was full. This wasn’t just a stone—it was a testimony. A marker of grace. A visible reminder that would speak long after the excitement faded.

He called it Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”

In that moment, Samuel was teaching something powerful: never forget what God has already done.

That stone stood as a witness. It declared that when they were weak, God was strong. When they were afraid, God fought for them. When they had nothing left, God showed up.

And the truth is—your life is filled with “Ebenezer moments” too.

Moments where you should have fallen, but you stood.
Moments where you didn’t know what to do, but somehow a way was made.
Moments where you were carried when you had no strength left to walk.

We often rush past those moments. We move on to the next challenge, the next prayer, the next worry… forgetting to stop and acknowledge the faithfulness of God.

But what if today, you paused?

What if you looked back—not with regret, but with gratitude—and said, “God, You’ve been with me this whole time”?

Because if He has helped you this far, He is not about to leave you now.

The same God who brought you through yesterday will carry you into tomorrow.

So stand still for a moment. Remember. Reflect. Give thanks.

Because your story is not just about where you’re going…
It’s about how faithful God has already been.

Thus far… the Lord has helped you.
