THE MYSTERIOUS STORY OF THE MAN WHO LOST EVERYTHING FOR CHRIST

There was once a man who spent almost his entire life overseas trading in gold. From his youth, he had one dream: to become wealthy before returning home.

Year after year, he worked, traded, saved, and accumulated gold. He sacrificed his youth, his comfort, and many relationships for his pursuit of wealth.

Finally, at the age of 80, he decided it was time to return home.

He had achieved what he wanted. He had enough gold to make him wealthy for the rest of his life.

He boarded a ship and began his journey across the sea.

But in the middle of the journey, something unexpected happened.

The sailor stood up and made an announcement:

“The weight of the load on this ship is too much. For our safety, we must reduce the weight. Everyone must be prepared to throw some of their belongings into the sea.”

Immediately, people began throwing their possessions overboard.

One person threw away his boxes. Another threw away his valuable possessions. Others began throwing their luggage into the sea.

But strangely, the danger did not stop.

The sailor shouted again:

“We are still too heavy! More must go!”

The old man looked at his gold.

This was the wealth he had spent almost 80 years pursuing.

He could not bear to throw it away.

So, secretly, he tied the gold around his waist like a belt and covered it with his clothes.

But the storm became worse.

The ship began to capsize.

People cried for help. Some were swept away by the waves. Among those taken by the sea were a man and a woman who left behind a little girl.

Eventually, only the old man and the little girl remained near the sinking ship.

The little girl was frightened. She had just lost both her parents.

She looked at the old man and cried:

“Help me, for the sake of Christ!”

Those words struck the old man's heart.

He looked at the little girl.

Then he looked at the gold around his waist.

He remembered the 80 years he had spent pursuing it.

He thought about his age.

He thought about everything he had sacrificed for that gold.

Then he heard the girl's words again:

“Help me, for the sake of Christ.”

At that moment, he understood something greater than wealth.

He realized that gold could not save him, but he could use his life to save someone else.

Without hesitation, he removed the gold from his waist and threw it into the sea.

Then he reached out, grabbed the little girl, and held her tightly.

The weight that had been pulling him down was gone.

He held onto the girl and fought his way through the waves.

Eventually, they were rescued.

The old man had lost almost everything he had spent his entire life gaining.

But he had gained something far more valuable:

A life saved.

As he looked at the empty sea where his gold had disappeared, tears came down his face.

And he began to sing:

“I LOST EVERYTHING FOR THE SAKE OF CHRIST.”

But perhaps, for the first time in his life, he understood that he had not really lost everything.

He had discovered what was truly valuable.

FIVE LESSONS:

1. Do not spend your whole life pursuing what cannot save you.

Wealth is useful, but it cannot save the soul.

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” — Mark 8:36

2. There are moments when you must choose between your possessions and your purpose.

The old man's gold represented everything he had worked for, but the little girl's life represented something greater.

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth…” — Matthew 6:19

3. Sometimes what you are holding is the very thing holding you down.

The gold was valuable, but in the sinking ship, its weight became dangerous. Some things we refuse to release may prevent us from moving forward.

“Let us lay aside every weight…” — Hebrews 12:1

4. A life spent helping others is more valuable than a life spent accumulating possessions.

The old man discovered that his greatest treasure was not what he could possess, but whom he could help.

“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” — Acts 20:35

5. Never allow material success to make you forget Christ.

At 80, the old man finally learned that gold could not answer the deepest need of the human heart. When the girl cried, “Help me for the sake of Christ,” he was forced to choose what mattered most.

“For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” — Philippians 1:21

THE GREAT QUESTION

You may not have gold around your waist, but what are you holding onto that God is asking you to release?

Money?

Pride?

Position?

Unforgiveness?

Past achievements?

Material possessions?

There may come a moment when you must choose between what you have gained and what God has called you to save.

Do not wait until the ship is sinking before you discover what truly matters.
